Cambridge United have released ex-MK Dons and Sheffield United midfielder Samir Carruthers, as announced by their official club website.
The U’s have published their retained list for next season already to give out of contract players a head start in their search for new clubs during these uncertain times.
The likes of Jabo Ibehre, Reggie Lambe, George Taft, Paul Lewis and Dan Jones are also moving on from the League Two side on free transfers.
Mark Bonner’s side are in talks with key trio Harrison Dunk, Greg Taylor and Liam O’Neil over new deals.
Carruthers, who is 27 years old, will have to weigh up his options this summer. He only joined Cambridge last summer following his departure from Sheffield United.
He started his senior career at Aston Villa and played three times for their first-team before moving onto MK Dons.
The midfielder spent four years with the Dons and helped them gain promotion to the Championship in 2015.
Sheffield United then came calling for him in January 2017 and he moved to Bramall Lane for a fee of around £250,000. He was part of Chris Wilder’s side who won the League One title in his first season at the club.
He then played 17 games for the Blades in the Championship during the 2017/18 campaign but was on loan at Oxford United last term as the Yorkshire side gained promotion to the Premier League.
Carruthers is a decent free agent option for clubs needing to strengthen their squads over the coming months.
