Skuse: We Have to Deal With the Expectation
Friday, 27th Sep 2019 14:40

Blues vice-captain Cole Skuse says the players will have to deal with this season’s increasing expectations and believes they should take responsibility for last year’s relegation, which he admits left him “embarrassed” at times.

“The players have to take responsibility for what happened last year,” the 33-year-old said in an interview with Saturday’s match programme.

“Maybe we didn’t get as much guidance as we would have liked at the start but players cross the white line and have to deliver.

“I have used the word embarrassed about last year when I think back to certain occasions. When you have lost, all you want to do is get off the pitch and shut yourself away in a dark corner.

“That happened a lot last season, we lost a lot of games yet the fans stayed with us, standing in the pouring rain and freezing cold.

“We didn’t deserve that but the least they deserved is for us to show our appreciation to them at the end of the game. Then to get 20,000 at home on Tuesday night in League One, it’s just incredible.

“The expectations are there and we have to deal with that because it’s about getting promoted as soon as possible but we are getting results this year that we wouldn’t have got last year.

“We look more assured, more solid. I know it’s a level down, that is a factor but as a group, with the pre-season we’ve had this year, we have a better understanding of each other and we are better and stronger as a group.”

The former Bristol City man made his 250th Blues start away against the MK Dons just over a week ago.

Another dig at Hurst in there from another senior player. With Scunny now at the wrong end of lge2 I really hope his days in football are numbered.

Saxonblue74 - Hurst undoubtedly did a poor job at Ipswich, but he did well for his previous clubs. Don't wish the guy loses his employment. We all need to move from past managers - and them us (I don't like Mick bringing us up all the time and wish he'd move on).

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one Chorlton. I'm not a fan of bullies (which I think he and his neanderthal sidekick are) and hope that they are treated with the same disrespect they offered our club and senior professionals.

First Chambers,now Skuse.
We all moan at Mick for constantly having a dig it us, but can't help ourselves.
In all honesty Cole, you should be embarrassed. Players of your experience blaming others for not giving you any guidance...really ???.
Of course we look more assured and more solid as players like yourself have arrived at your level.
I wish we would all just concentrate on doing the job at hand and getting this once famous and respected club get back to somewhere near where it belongs and stop making excuses and blaming others.
Lets us forget Mick, forget Hurst and concentrate on now !!!

The future lies ahead !
Looking back won't help unless ( as I think CS is ) we distill the truth from history and learn from it – which by comparison he says we have .,
So let's not exhume the dead , but celebrate life as it is ,and the joys it's bringning ITFC .

Even the eldest of players benefits from advice. The manager sets the team, the tactics etc should be explaing what he wants from them not just saying "kick it that way"👉

Even more so with clutch of players stepping up a division or 2. When he says us he means the team, not him and Chambo and they still need to understand what the manager wants and what they game plan is so they can help the younger members execute.

It's is becoming clear all they got from Hurst was "kick, ball, goal"

Don't people remember Hurst just sitting in the dug our with his arms folded. He never made a single move onto the pitch to shout instruction..,,. Compare to Lamberts all involved approach .

So when comparing the “guidance” vs “lack of guidance” approach at this Club, I know which approach I'd rather follow!!

we are getting results this year that we wouldn't have got last year. Yeah That's because we are in League 1 and it should be easier for everybody..
