Nottingham Forest striker keen to fire Luton Town to promotion after Posh departure

Nottingham Forest striker Jason Cummings joined Luton Town on loan for the rest of the season on transfer deadline day, as the Hatters signed three players to bolster their options heading into the promotion push.

Jason Cummings spent the first half of the season on loan with fellow League One side Peterborough United, where he struggled for goals and game time after an electric start.

Cummings made an electric start to life at Peterborough, picking up the award for League One Player of the Month in August, after scoring six goals in his first five League games for The Posh. However, since then, the Scot didn’t score once in League One for Steve Evans’ side. His other two goals came in the EFL Trophy, scoring against Brighton and Hove Albion’s Under-23s and League Two side Exeter City.

Now, with top of the table Luton, he will be looking to return to his best to help fire them to promotion.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be here,” Cummings told the Nottingham Post.

“I heard that Luton were interested about a week or so ago and I spoke to the gaffer, and obviously the club are doing fantastic so far and I want to come in and help them get promoted.

“He was saying that there is a feel-good factor here, I’ll love it here and the style of play suits me, and I’ve also been speaking to (Andrew) Shinnie as well. I used to play with him at Hibs a few years ago, and he was saying how good it is. It was just something I wanted to be part of.

“I also played with James (Collins) four or five years ago as well, so it’s always good to know a couple of familiar faces.

“The boys here are doing fantastic. My aim is to come here and help the boys get promoted. I’ll try to get in the team and score as many goals as I can, and it’s exciting,

“I enjoyed my spell at Peterborough and I remember that game. One of my goals was a penalty, but playing against Luton, it was a hard game.

“The style of play and the way they were playing, we were having to do a lot of chasing as well, but we managed to get the win that game. Ever since then, Luton have been absolutely unstoppable, and I want to be part of it.”

Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry said last week that Cummings had turned down interest from League Two duo Lincoln City and MK Dons, with Scottish sides interested as well. He was keen to play above League Two and with a move to Luton, he has achieved just that.

He will look to provide support and competition for striker James Collins, who has been important in Luton’s title charge so far this season. Collins has scored 18 League goals so far this season, making him the division’s leading scorer.
